Gas Mask

Creative Project

What friends are for

I recently acquired a gas mask for my birthday, and have since been putting it to great use. A recent photography assignment required me to create images of video or movie characters, and my first thought was "GAS MASK!!!"

The game I had in mind was Fallout 3, which is a post apocalyptic environment, rampaging in it characters with all sorts of equipment and weaponry. My series consists of five images, all including this figure in the gas mask.

I have grown rather found, you may have noticed, of this technique of merging a photograph of a texture into the background of the subject. It is a very effect technique to make your background more lively and colorful. The trick, as I have mentioned before, is to place the texture image above your main image in the layers. Then to set the layer from normal to overlay. Lastly, grab your eraser tool and erase, at your own judgment, over the subject.
