The perfect Indiana winter getaway for couples
Serenity Springs in La Porte, Indiana
Valentine's Day is an important and romantic occasion for couples all over the world. What better way to spend time with your significant other than having a gorgeous cabin just for each other - curated with contactless delivery of goody baskets, a jacuzzi built into the floor, a view of a pond with ducks and geese to feed at your leisure, and a fire pit for roasting their provided smores.
That is the beauty available at Serenity Springs in La Porte, Indiana. This is not a sponsored post - I just love this place! My wife and I have been here twice now. The first time was in 2019 in the spring, where we got to enjoy exploring the property that has over 30 cabins around a couple of ponds / creeks and feeding the droves of wildlife with corn right off of our patio. In warmer seasons, they don’t even let you drive your car back to the cabin. Your experience starts with a horse drawn carriage taking you to your cabin. They don’t even provide wifi - it is described as a getting-off-the-grid-and-relax getaway. Of course, your phone can get a good signal and they have satellite TV with a huge selection of movies provided as well.
The second time was a couple of weeks ago, right during the winter storm we experienced. It was unplanned, yet since the goal of being at Serenity Springs is, in a sense, to relax in your cabin and not have to worry about going anywhere (they bring food baskets for breakfast and snacks and the option to have food delivered for you as well), it was a convenient place to hole up during a winter snow storm. We had the added benefit of then getting to enjoy the beautiful scenery with fresh snow on the ground.
You may ask - what else is there to do around La Porte (and the very nearby Michigan City) while you are there? There are plenty of small local shops you can explore, though that is not admittingly something I do often so I don’t have any particular recommendations.
There are a good variety of food options; however, I don’t like to necessarily post negative reviews, and I will warn you that there were no particular food spots that stuck out. We have tried 4 or 5 different restaurants at this point, and I wouldn’t say any of them are worse than deserving a 3 star, but also none I would have necessarily told you to try if you were there. There WAS a fun local chocolate shop, Little Chocolates, that is worth a visit to satisfy your sweet tooth.
If you are in the Fort Wayne area making a trip here, I will HIGHLY recommend taking a lunch stop, as we did, to Three Crowns Coffee for their - hear me out - ramen. Yep, a coffee shop that also serves ramen. It’s their thing. They got something going too, it is one of the best ramens I have had (easily in my top 3).
All of that being said, food and shopping are not the focus of this little getaway cabin resort. Unwinding for a few days with the simple luxuries provided are all you need.
Below are some of my favorite photos taken during this trip. It is a combination of the beautiful snow at our cabin after the snowstorm passed through and shots of the Michigan City Lighthouse that we stopped at before checking in.
